FAQ

Find answers to common questions about Roam FM.

Why do some stations sound like they're playing similar content?

This is a common phenomenon in the internet radio industry, not a bug in the app. Many small stations use the same royalty-free music libraries or hosting platforms (like Zeno.fm), some stations connect to the same music streaming services, and many are 24/7 automated stations rather than human DJs—all of which can lead to similar content. Roam FM is designed to "randomly explore radio stations around the world," and we keep these stations to cover as many countries and regions as possible, giving you a chance to discover sounds from every corner of the globe.

How do I request a refund?

Roam FM is sold via Gumroad. Please open your Gumroad receipt email and use the link to view your purchase; from there you can request a refund. If you cannot find the receipt, contact us with the email used for purchase and we will help.

Why can't some stations play, or why do they keep loading?

Roam FM connects to live radio streams from around the world. Some stations may be temporarily unavailable due to network issues, off-air hours, or server restrictions. We will automatically try the next available station for you, or you can switch stations manually.

Can I favorite stations?

Yes! When playing a station, you'll find a favorite button in the top-right control panel. After favoriting stations, you can choose between: playing random stations globally, or only playing your favorited stations. Our station data comes from the open source Radio Browser database. If you'd like to add a specific station, feel free to email us.

Is Pro a subscription or a one-time purchase?

Roam FM uses a freemium model. Basic features are free. Roam FM Pro is a one-time purchase (Lifetime), sold via Gumroad. Once you buy it, it is unlocked permanently, with no monthly subscription.

Why isn't Roam FM available on the App Store?

Apple rejected Roam FM under Guideline 5.2.3, requiring licensing documentation for all 40,000+ radio stations—an impossible task. After three rounds of appeals, we chose to distribute independently via GitHub and Gumroad. Read the full story here.

Does the app collect my location?

No. Roam FM runs locally, and the globe visuals do not rely on your precise location. We take privacy seriously. For more details, please read our Privacy Policy.

Roam FM currently supports 9 languages: English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, and Russian.

What macOS versions are supported?
